My Brothers cancer part2

Today is Nov03/08 and it is the last week of my brothers first round of sutent treatments. For the first week or so he experienced no side effects at all but well into the second week he began to have a bit of trouble with acid reflux. I was told that this was very common with sutent as it is usually hard on the stomach. I was told that he should use Zantac or nexium. He used zantac and this did the trick. Considering the side effects he could possibly have he has been very fortunate. I know that God is with us both every step of the way. One day while feeling very anxious and rattled I asked various questions I had about my brothers kidney cancer on cancer compass -message board. As usual I always had some very caring people reply but one message in particular seemed to interest me. It was a chat line a lady had started whose husband had kidney cancer and beat the odds. We are all in this together and why shouldnt we help each other if we can. Here you will find patients as well as caregivers living one day at a time and enjoying LIFE. You are not judged here and there is no such thing as a stupid question because personally speaking I knew very little about cancer,treatments chemo etc. until my brother was diagnosed with RCC renal cell carcinoma stage iv with mets. to both lungs. What did this all mean? could he beat this would he live?or would he die soon/ All of these questions and alot more went through my mind in jumbles-changing day by day or even hour. by hour . All I knew for sure that this cancer was very serious and I did not want to lose my only sibling whom I love with all my heart. Now when I have a bad day I can go online and talk to others who really DO understand what I am feeling and when I am having a good day they will be excited and laugh with me. My brother must have 2 - 28 day treatments with his 14 days off each month before he has another scan. I hope this treatment works for him. I will say my prayers tonight for all you caregivers and patients out there and I ask that you might say a prayer for my brother because prayer is a wonderful thing and it is through prayer that miracles happen. I am not a regular churchgoer but always beleieved in prayer but now I finally realize how strong it is!!stronger than any cancer!!

my brothers kidney cancer

My brother had his kidney removed in May and had several mets. to the lungs. Since then he was on a hormone therapy that did not seem to work. He is now on sutent and I am praying this works. He has only been on it for a week and no side effects yet. What are the chances of this working? Will he have to be on this forever and what if it doesnt work what will they try next? He was told by the doctor that he is in the latter stages of stage iv? Is that bad or does he have a fighting chance!!God Bless Everyone!! Carolanne
